Learn how to turn a PNG image into a cut-ready SVG for Cricut — completely free. In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through what PNGs and SVGs actually are, why Cricut needs SVG files for clean cutting, and how to convert your image into separate layers you can use in Cricut Design Space. Perfect for beginners who want to make custom Cricut projects without paying for extra tools or subscriptions.
The quick walkthrough
- 1
Find a design
Find a PNG file you'd like to use.
- 2
Go to pngtosvg.com
Upload the PNG, choose how many colours you'd like your final SVG to contain and press "generate".
- 3
Download
Download the resulting SVG and upload it into Cricut Design Space.
- 4
Clean it up
Use the contour feature to pick out the various sections of the image, leaving all the extra small bits and pieces contoured out.
Please Note:
Since this video was filmed, pngtosvg.com has significantly upgraded and now produces perfect SVGs that are ready for use, with no need to clean them up at all. New updated video coming soon iyH!
