Etched Honey Jars for Rosh Hashanah: an easy Cricut glass etching tutorial! Learn how to make gorgeous etched honey jars for Rosh Hashanah with your Cricut. In this beginner-friendly tutorial, I'll show you how to create a custom glass etching design in Cricut Design Space, apply it with a vinyl stencil, and etch it to a beautiful frosted finish — perfect for a homemade Rosh Hashanah gift.

Measure your blanks
Measure the width and height of the surface of your blank that you will be etching.

Prepare the design
Download the design(s) you'd like to use and import it into Design Space. Use a shape that is closest to your honey jar's surface (mine are hexagons) and resize it so it matches the size of your blank. Then, resize your chosen design to fit comfortably inside the shape. Attach the design to the shape, and cut.

Apply the stencil
Weed the excess vinyl around your shape, and then remove all the portions of the design from inside it (the ones you would normally keep if you were applying this vinyl design onto something!). Wipe your blank with an alcohol wipe and use transfer tape to apply the stencil to your blank, making sure to burnish well so no etching cream can seep under the edges.

Apply etching cream
Use your paintbrush to apply a layer of Armour Etch all over your stencil, brushing in all directions. If your etching cream has hardened crystals, make sure to move them off of the actual design onto the vinyl stencil. Take care not to get any cream outside of the stencil. Leave the cream on for around 10 minutes.

Wash and dry
Gently rub off the Armour Etch under running water until all residue is gone, then remove the vinyl and rub it dry. All done!
One little tip
Don't panic if the glass looks clear when you wash off the etching cream! When the etching is wet it will look almost see-through, but it is definitely there and isn't going anywhere!
